Nottingham Soft Tissue Knee Fellowship
This fellowship has been set up by Mr Jimmy Ng and Mr Tom Kurien who are both passionate about surgical education and training of the future leaders in soft tissue knee surgery.
The fellowship is aimed at post CCT trainees who already have a foundation knowledge and skills in soft tissue knee surgery and want to further advance their skills. We aim to provide our fellows a comprehensive hands-on experience including the complex cases to fully prepare them as specialists capable of managing all soft tissue knee injuries and conditions.
The fellowship will primarily be based in Nottingham City Hospital, our elective site. The on-call commitments attract a pay uplift but doesn’t come with significant out of hours workload, allowing the fellows to be fully involved in the elective activities, maximising their learning.
This fellowship will be advertised on NHS jobs website approximately 18months – 2 years from start date.
We are also one of the few recognised national cartilage centres in the country, offering procedures such as MACI and OCA. In addition, QMC is one of the busiest major trauma centres in the UK, offering the fellows exposure to a high volume of multiligament knee injuries.
The fellows will gain experience in the following procedures:
- 1Primary and revision ACLR (all graft options – hamstring, BTB, quads)
- 2PCL and multiligament knee injuries
- 3Chondral restoration (OATS/MACI/OCA)
- 4Osteotomy and joint preservation
- 5Complex meniscal repair including root repairs and meniscal transplant
- 6Patellofemoral stabilisation
- 7Paediatric knee surgery
- 8Total and partial knee replacements

The fellows are expected to log 300 cases per 6 month with approximately 75% as the primary surgeon.
